How to Use AI for Crafting Impactful Thesis Statements

Wednesday - April 3, 2024

A good-quality thesis statement can be invaluable to a student. It can not only cover the necessary points within the thesis, but it can also guide the entire process of research. However, writing a high-quality or impactful thesis statement can be a challenge.

Experts say that an effective thesis statement should be concise and factual. Another study says that a good-quality thesis should be around 50 words, and should be 4-5 important lines describing the key parts of the main thesis.

So, can AI help with that? Which sort of AI tool should you use? Besides, is it acceptable to leverage AI-based tools to craft thesis statements? We’ll find that out and more as we answer these questions, So, let’s get started.

Is Using AI Acceptable For Crafting Thesis Statements?

The answer is yes, and no. Barely any universities or colleges would allow students to use AI directly, but they don’t mind leveraging it in some way. One of the best things about AI is that it can help break writer’s block quite easily. In simple words, it’s acceptable if:

· You’re using it to get rid of a writer’s block.

· You wish to save a ton of time.

· You’ll add your own research and understanding to it.

· And you won’t pass it along as it is.

So, using AI is acceptable when the writer or student is simply looking to generate ideas or understand how to write something. And while modern AI tools rid them of the need to edit content for quality, it’s still a good idea if you do so.

Which AI Tool Should You Use For Thesis Statement Generation?

There are quite a few tools you can use to generate a thesis statement. For instance, many would tell you to simply use ChatGPT and call it a day, but that won’t be a very good idea. Here’s an example of me generating a thesis statement using ChatGPT:

You can say right away that it’s written by AI, and none of the content feels natural. It’s soulless and basically only generalizes the topic. Instead, it’s better to use something like EditPad’s Thesis Generator:

Now, compared to the thesis generated by ChatGPT, this one seems more well-thought-out and delivers a better understanding of the topic. In other words, the thesis statement generated by the tool offers:

· Better clarity and understanding of the main topic.

· Offers specificity instead of vagueness.

· It’s quite debatable and argumentative.

· And it offers scope instead of being generic.

That’s why, a tool like this can make the task easier for students, who don’t only wish to use AI to generate an impactful thesis, but also something that thoroughly encapsulates their idea.

3 Steps To Use AI For Crafting an Impactful Thesis

Now let’s talk about the process to use AI and craft an impactful thesis. In this section, we’ll explore the multiple ways a student can use EditPad’s Thesis Generator, or any similar tool to generate a high-quality thesis. So, let’s begin:

1: Enter The Thesis Topic

The first thing to do is enter the thesis topic to generate the thesis. This tool is designed to create thesis statements, so it doesn’t ask for any additional details, as it takes care of the rest on its own. So, all you have to do is enter the topic like this:

After that, you can simply tap on the “Generate” button or polish the idea. However, the tool is free to use and will allow you to reuse it multiple times.

2: Generate Various Types

After tapping on the generate button, you will get the result of your generated thesis statement. Now, it’s important to remember that this thesis statement may not be to your liking, but you can always regenerate or try different words. Here’s how our prompt looks:

Since it covers the key areas that we wanted to cover, we can simply go ahead and tap the copy or download buttons in the top-right corners. But let’s say I want to generate something less argumentative, and more suggestive/open to debate, then I can try something like this:

As you can see above, the topic has now changed from resolute to a query. So, when we generate a statement for this topic, we get a suggestive statement:

This suggestive thesis statement is ideal for those who are looking to provide their research and answer the questions as they go along. However, the tool opens up many possibilities and it depends entirely on the user to employ it thoroughly.

3: Get The Topic Right & Provide the Finishing Touches

AI tools are capable of generating various results, and you need to squeeze various possibilities. So, let’s try something else by ensuring that you get your topic right each time. As seen before, we tried two different prompts, but what happens when we switch it up further like this:

Then, when we tap the Generate button, the results look a bit like this:

Now our topic is a bit more polished and so are the results. However, the word count of this thesis statement is around 142, and we can reduce it to around 60-70, which would be an ideal length for the thesis statement. What you can do here is:

· Make each sentence/bullet around 10 words or so.

· Cut down fluff or any info you don’t need.

· Focus on only the key point of the main thesis.

· And remove any points that are better covered in the thesis itself.

This will allow you to create a thesis statement that’s not only outstanding but also delivers the idea efficiently. Thus, allowing you to save a ton of time from doing it manually.

Conclusion

There you have it, the process that allows you to write a high-quality statement with a thesis generator. The process not only ensures you write something that delivers the idea efficiently, but also impactfully. Thus, proving that AI tools like the one we used can save time, and hassle while providing high-quality text.
